Playing With Dolls: Bloodlust

The horror movie flood tides continue to rise, with EVEN MORE releases lining up to un-line your coin purse…

PLAYING WITH DOLLS: BLOODLUST (November 1, 2016 / VOD)
“A group of aspiring actors are chosen for a reality horror TV show. In the show, they must survive being chased by a killer. The program is filmed with scores of tiny cameras in a cabin and the surrounding forest. What the contestants don’t know is that this murderer is a real killer and the television program is a ruse.”

The sequel to Playing With Dolls (2015), wherein a serial killer is decommissioned by an institute for the criminally insane, presumably to go back to his day job. The new one, though, has a much more clever twist. Tiny cameras? That’s flippin’ amazing.

Shut In

SHUT IN (November 11, 2016)
“Mary is a widowed child psychologist who believes she’s being haunted by the disturbed foster child Tom, who ran away while under her care. The haunting episodes take place in Mary’s deserted New England home where she tends to her stepson who is in a permanent catatonic state following a car accident.”

So is Disturbed Tom a vengeful ghost or just a “kid at risk” candidate? And since when is a house deserted when there are people living in it? Color me confused.

The Similars

THE SIMILARS (November 15, 2016 / VOD)
“On the rainy night of October 2, 1968, eight people waiting in a remote bus station for a bus heading to Mexico City start experiencing a strange phenomenon. Threatened by paranoia and fear, the strangers show the best and worst of themselves as they try to unravel the mysterious condition that is invading each of them like a virus.”

I liked this better when it was called The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street (The Twilight Zone, episode #22 / aired March 4, 1960). Exact similar plot. Word to your mother.

Brides of Satan

BRIDES OF SATAN (pending crowd-funding)
Brides of Satan is a cinematic love story to the early exploitation films of the 1960s, The grindhouse revenge thrillers of the 70’s, and the apocalyptic punk rock 1980s. It’s a kitchen sink, genre f*ck – of action, B-movie and horror, featuring a gang of unlikely anti-heroes & heroines. Recommended for fans of Kill Bill (2004), Faster Pussycat Kill Kill (1965), Natural Born Killers (1994), and Death Wish (1974). Project is currently 1/4 into principle photography – we Need YOU to help COMPLETE this modern revenge thriller!”

As of today (October 31, 2016) Brides of Satan has only raised $1,368 from 14 backers on Indiegogo™. With 17 days left on the green mile clock, it might be an economic pipe dream for them to hit their target of $66,666.66. That number seems familiar for some reason and… Oh, I remember – that’s my phone number. P.S. Lend them your bit coins HERE.

An Immortal Cannibal

He Never Died

Rock stars showing up in horror/sci-fi movies is nothing new. Off the top ’o my dome, Alice Cooper comes to mind being in a pile of ’em: Monster Dog, Prince of Darkness, Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, Suck, Dark Shadows, etc.

Punk icon and former Black Flag member Henry Rollins has quite a few horror reels under his belt as well, the latest being He Never Died, in which he plays a cannibal who tries to control his addiction. The hook: he can’t die. But wait, there’s more…

He Never Died

Rollins stars as Jack, a mysterious loner who has lived an inexplicably long life fueled by blood lust and filled with crime and violence. He buys stolen blood from a hospital intern, plays bingo, sleeps fourteen hours a day, watches television six hours a day, and lives alone. This is his life – he has shelled himself away from social interactions. The fuse is lit when Jack’s past comes back to rattle him. Jack must now walk a tight rope of sobriety and try to eat as few people as possible in this violent tale of personal responsibility and self worth. As it turns out, there are very few reasons to live when you can’t die.”

Henry Rollins

Not sure if Rollins used to eat people during his younger punk rock days, but with that legendary perma-aggro glare of his, he at least looked capable of chowing down fan ham. And he has the acting chops to pull it off. The movie role, not, like, actually eating people.

So how do you see He Never Died? The movie is gunning for a December 18, 2015 theatrical run, crowdfunded by Indiegogo™. Smuggle in your own people snacks, though; The price of concessions has gotten out of control these days.

Visiting Flesh-Eaters

The Visitors

Wanna see a couple of ill-intent criminals consumed by a flesh-eating creature? Well hey – who doesn’t?

Gonna cost you, though. The Visitors – a crowd-funded movie on Indiegogo [click here] that’s reputed to contain healthy elements of The Evil Dead and The Thing, need your fun bucks to make the criminal-eating possible.

Here’s the pitch: “After settling into their new home in the country, the Cooper family’s night of peaceful relaxation is brought to an abrupt halt when two mysterious drifters come knocking on their door. As the drifters attempt to unleash a strategic plan of terror upon the unsuspecting family, their plan is soon foiled by a flesh-eating creature fixated on only one thing – survival.”

The Visitors

“In order for the family to survive the night they must entrust in the one person who once sought to harm them, but as the events of the evening begin to unravel it becomes clear that there is more to this situation than meets the eye and more than one monster lurking in the shadows.”

Hmm – sounds like they need to work together with one or more criminals to fend off this creature that eats flesh. Since The Visitors is set in the country, I’m betting the flesh-eating creature is a mad cow with mad cow disease. Makes sense when you think about it.

Sherlock Holmes vs. Frankenstein

Sherlock Holmes vs. Frankenstein

Sherlock Holmes vs. Frankenstein. I was wondering when those two were gonna lock it up given all the period piece mash-ups leaking into our popped cultured brains: Helen Keller vs. Nightwolves (2015), FDR: American Badass! (2012), Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012), Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016).

Filming in Belgium near the German border in a castle of all things (what, Starbucks™ too “contemporary” for you?), Sherlock Holmes vs. Frankenstein (release pending) will make it to your face if they get enough crowdfunding via IndieGoGo [click HERE]. In the meantime, the filmmakers have uploaded a nice trailer to get your wallet warmed up.

So here’s how these two legendary icons get in a tangle: “1898. Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson travel to Germany to investigate a strange case in the village of Darmstadt.”

“Who is the mysterious figure who digs up corpses and steals their limbs? Could these events be related to the nearby presence of Castle Frankenstein, whose name is closely associated to Mary Shelley’s horror novel? Everyone is a suspect.”

I’m not a suspect. I have a iron-clad alibi; I was drinking a cold refreshing adult beverage and watching the telly.

Sherlock Holmes vs. Frankenstein has a killer movie poster created by Gil Jouin, a French illustrator. I wonder if he’d be available to design the poster for my upcoming crowdfunded period flick, Daniel Boone vs. Mecha Old Yeller. I only need $15 dollars to get this thing done.

Bionic Bigfoot

Megafoot

If it isn’t already, my head must be shaped like a Tootsie Pop™ because I’m a sucker for movies with titles like Megafoot, an upcoming killer thriller about Bigfoot that’s half bionic, clanking around the woods, making threatening overtures towards all it encounters.

I would like to be a cherry-flavored sucker, please.

Megafoot isn’t a done deal, however. The filmmakers are trying to raise money via social fundraising a IndieGoGo™. Great. There’s goes rent. And why? Just to see a part cyborg/part Bigfoot movie? Hell to the yes.

Like beer in a sufficiently cooled refrigerator, the plot is near to irresistible: “A highly classified experiment accidentally unleashes a top secret killing machine known as Megafoot. Now it’s up to an elite squad of soldiers to track down the beast and kill it before it destroys everyone and everything in its path.”

“A married couple, a group of college students, the scientists who know the truth, and some not-too friendly locals are about to confront their worst nightmare in this action-packed, horror thriller, gore ride.”

Gore ride. How, I ask you, can you NOT be slobbering all over yourself in anticipation?

Time to flavor up – you know what to do.
