Lumberjack Man

“This camp sits on the sinkhole of Hell..”

That’s pretty funny. I would’ve said “stinkhole,” but hey, what do I know about Hell other than living it every day of my life. (I said days, not nights. That’s a different blog posting.)

But funny is how the filmmakers behind the horror comedy Lumberjack Man (releasing October 16, 2015) want you to react. And after viewing the trailer, I concur. Here’s why…

Lumberjack Man

“As the staff of Good Friends Church Camp prepares for a spring break filled with Fun Under the Son, a demon logger rises from his sap boiler to wreak his vengeance and feast on flapjacks soaked in the blood of his victims…”

Lumberjack Man

Flapjacks – I guess that’s what you call pancakes if they’re made outdoors. That this demon logger pours blood on ’em instead of artificial maple syrup purchased from a established grocery outlet, is probably another regional thing.

Lumberjack Man

Regardless, this tongue-in-cheek homage to ’80s slashers is pretty funny and bubbling with flapjackin’ slappin’ dialogue, bouncing babes, blood, gunk, and other stuff not meant for the breakfast table. The dinner table? That’s a whole other blog.

The Horror Network

Horror anthologies seem to be plopping out with all the regularity of a high-fiber breakfast these days. Hot on the tale of Tales of Halloween (2015) comes The Horror Network in time for October, 2015, featuring five stories of super icky fun horror stuff in the form of serial killers, inner demons, otherworld monsterscreepy stalkers, and ghostly phone callsOooh, ghostly phone calls – I really miss those on my old land line.

The Horror Network

So, like, five of horror’s most promising new directing talents join forces to pay homage to classic horror like Creepshow, Tales From the Crypt, V/H/S and The ABCs of Death. I happen to be a big fan of all of the above. You’re welcome.

FYI: The DVD of The Horror Network will exclusively include a number of bonus features. Oooh, I really like bonus features.

A Real Party Killer

The Eve

Been hearing about this nifty indie horror move, The Eve (2015), for some time now. In dog years probably three. But since I can’t remember what I had for breakfast three years ago, The Eve fell off my radar.

But like a cold sore, it popped back up and is ready for a movie/TV/iPad™/iPhone 6 Plus™ with 5.5-inch display (from $299) screen near your general direction.

Why you might care: “A group of friends heads off to the remote island of Martha’s Vineyard to celebrate New Year’s Eve and reconnect. As tensions rise, an unforeseen presence halts celebrations and instead turns their holiday into a fight to live through to the new year.”

At first glance it looks like a slasher dude has further isolated the group of four and has disabled their amenities. (I absolutely FREAK if I don’t have amenities.) Then they are systematically attacked by…

The Eve

Not sure. Could be a garden variety slasher. Might be a ghost of one of their friends whom they “accidentally” killed while at another weekend getaway. Or, if my theory holds, a satanic evil demon spirit. Then again, probably not. Satanic evil demon spirits usually charge a lot of money for these types of gigs.

Oh, I know – it’s their suppressed guilt manifesting itself into people slaughtering fun times. Swish – nothin’ but net!
